Brief Profile: Tewodros Yilma


Tewodros Yilma (Teddy) specializes in promoting Investment and Private Sector Development in Small and Medium Scale Manufacturing Firms. His Expertise ranges from formulation of production processes and recipes, organizations of work flow and labor, development of quality assessment systems and Total Quality Control, design and installation of effluent treatment plants. He is also interested in undertaking of bankable project feasibility study for new production unit, rehabilitation and modernization of existing units; preparation of business plans and conducts financial and economic study.

 

Teddy has multi disciplinary professions including Chemistry (B.Sc.) Leather technology (Post Graduate Certificate) and Economics (B.A. & M. Sc.). He has specialized in Human Resource Economics (Education, Health and Labor Economics) and sub specialized in International and Environmental Economics. He also formally trained in computer programming courses such as Computer Programming in Fortran, Computer Programming in C++, Object Oriented Programming, Computer Networking and Communications, Software Engineering and Windows Programming in Visual Basic in Addis Ababa University and Hilco School of Computer Science. He is also trained in and uses a number of Econometrics Software such as STATA, PCGIVE, SPSS, LIMDEP and the like.

 

He has several years of experience in manufacturing industry the leather industry at plant level and at support institution at international level. At plant level he has worked as Head of Quality control Department, Production manager and Production Supervisor. He has also quiet extensive international experience while working as a program coordinator in Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa-Leather and Leather Product Institute (COMESA/LLPI). COMESA is one of regional economic block of Africa having several programs in various sectors among which the leather industry is one.  As a program coordinator he has formulated and implemented a number of programs and projects in the area of training, research and development, computer based information system, which has been implemented in some countries of the COMESA region. He has also rendered a consultancy services and undertaken a number of feasibility, rehabilitation and modernization study for different companies.

 

Teddy has conducted a number of researches and written papers in various areas such as Unemployment and Role of Employment Services, A Thesis for partial fulfillment of an M.Sc. degree in Human Resource Economics, AAU, July 2000, Determinants of Exchange Rate in Ethiopia, A thesis for partial fulfillment of B.A. Degree in Economics, AAU, Dec 1995, Determinants of Prices of Hides and Skins in Ethiopia, a research paper submitted to Addis Ababa University, May, 1999, Availability of Hides and Skins in Ethiopia, COMESA Leather and Leather Products Institute, Jan 1998, Multi-modal Training Program in Leather and Leather Products Courses, Paper presented at Seminar on Meet in Africa Trade Fair and Convention, 1998, Cape-town, South Africa, Possibilities of Substituting of Common Salt with other Preservatives chemical in Preservation of Hides and skins, Ethiopian Pickling, 1993. He has prepared and edited training materials such as in Leather Manufacturing Technology, COMESA/LLPI, January, 1996 & October 1999, Edited Course Material in Leather Machinery Maintenance, COMESA/LLPI October 1998 and May 1999.

 

He is a an active member of a number of Organizations such as Organization for Preservation of Ethiopian Environmental and Cultural Heritage (OPEECHH), Ethiopian Economics Association, Ethiopian Leather Technologists and Chemists Association, Founding Member of Chemical Society of Ethiopia, International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

 

Teddy is married and has a daughter and a boy.
